Sore muscles are typical after doing an activity that uses the muscles in a way that they have not been used for an extended period of time. Lactic acid builds in those muscles and needs to be removed in order to stop the aching. Stretching the muscles and using ice will help reduce the lactic acid. If the aching does not go away after 3 days, a more severe injury may be present. If discoloration or swelling is present, the muscle has been strained and micro-tearing of the muscle fibers may be present.
Call us at 724-477-3181 if your pain persists or you are experiencing swelling and discoloration. An evaluation of the injury will occur and treatment will be provided to assist in the healing process.
