Ankle sprains often result in swelling, discoloration, decreased range of motion, inability to walk normally and a general decrease in overall functional use. Depending on the severity of the sprain, the tissues may heal, however, the risk of scar tissue and chronic (long term) swelling exists. Physical therapy can help to improve strength, range of motion, walking and functional use of the ankle while decreasing swelling, discoloration and pain. If you are a "weekend warrior", hire a physical therapist so that you can continue "playing" for years to come.
