What is Plantar Fascitis?

Plantar fascitis is inflammation of the soft tissue at the bottom of the feet called the fascia.  Standing or walking for long periods, especially in improperly fit shoes, having tight Achilles tendons or heel cords, excessively pronating the feet while walking (the arch falls) or stepping on an object are some of the ways that plantar fascitis can occur.  Treatments including ultrasound, electrical stimulation, soft tissue mobilization/massage and stretching of the Achilles and fascia will all help to relieve the pain.
